As a software engineer at Workiva, I develop on an agile team to write best in class financial software for financial organizations of all sizes. The team I am on is a small, fast-moving team that writes modular components for use across all of Workiva's different products. This team demands strong communication skills, and the ability to write high-performance and adaptable code across the full application stack in languages such as Go, Java, Dart, and occasionally Python.
In this role, I regularly meet with internal customers (such as other development teams) to assist with the integration of components that our team has made, and support developers across the company in preforming these integrations.
I am also responsible for responding to production support issues, writing new-feature discovery tickets, and have regularly met with external customers to gather product feedback and new ideas.
As a Software Engineering intern at Workiva, I worked alongside full-time engineers to develop our next-gen product. I also assisted in fielding product-specific support questions from other teams within Workiva, and presented bi-weekly development progress presentations to product managers and other development teams.
A few of the projects I worked on as an intern were designing an automated mock SQL data generator to help simulate production database loads and assisting with a full refactor of a codebase over a 6 month period. I also familiarized and trained contributors on the new technologies in use. Lastly, I traveled to the Workiva headquarters for the annual internal developer conference to serve as a subject matter expert to help implement a component in another team’s application.
Operated, repaired and monitored production sound and video systems for events at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, Bobcat Stadium, and and various smaller event spaces on campus. Events ranged from small banquets and conferences to basketball games, concerts, football games, trade shows, and more.
Managed and deployed user workstations in a sterile hospital environment. Fielded support inquiries from staff and surgeons with account and Active Directory related tasks.
I also developed an automated surgical video multiplexer using Python. Used to quickly process multiple video files and photos into one easy-to-view file for patients.
Designed and installed sound systems for the district's main gym and two additional facilities. Worked with district administration to design an effective solution to meet their sound amplification needs, while remaining within a tight budget.
Helped set up and operate sound systems used for various state games events, such as the Dance-Sport Competition, the Opening Ceremonies, and the Heart and Sole charity run.
Repaired and monitored 30+ computers for students in an after-school program for at-risk and disadvantaged youth. Configured computers with a customized Linux operating system with scripts for file cleanup, etc.
Assisted staff in the repair of medical equipment and control systems.
